Small mouse cages (Ø180 mm)

Our carbon fiber-reinforced plastic floating cages are designed for effortless movement and durability. Mice can easily move the cage, creating the illusion of free, self-directed locomotion, while their head remains stably fixed for imaging or electrophysiological recordings.

      Key benefits

      • Lightweight & durable: Easy for mice to move, yet strong enough to last.
      • Rigid bottom: Ensures smooth flotation for seamless movement.
      • Trackable: Neodymium magnets embedded in the base enable precise locomotion tracking and reduce rotational inertia.
      • Reusable: Easily cleaned with mild detergent and disinfected with 70% ethanol.
      • Natural walking surface: The flat bottom offers a more natural walking experience compared to spherical or cylindrical treadmills.
      • Tactile stimulation: The cage walls and floor provide natural tactile cues for the mouse.
      • Protection from distractions: Opaque walls limit exposure to unwanted visual stimuli, helping to reduce stress.
      • Optional transparent walls: Ideal for visual stimulation or behavioral observation.

Wall height options for small mouse cages

      • 60 mm: Best for imaging, offering extra shielding and stress reduction.
      • 40 mm: Ideal for electrophysiology, with better micromanipulator access at an acute angle.
      • 20 mm: Optimal for patch-clamp recordings, visual stimulation, or gait research. Additional training may be needed, as mice can feel more exposed.

      Weight

The cages weigh 67-75 g, depending on wall height.

      Compatibility

These 180 mm diameter cages are compatible with the standard-size Mobile HomeCage system and the MultiCage Training Arena. Each Mobile HomeCage kit includes two opaque cages, while the MultiCage system includes three. Additional cages are sold individually, with the transparent version available at an extra cost due to the manual production process.

For more information, including care and maintenance, please check this guide to cages.

For experiments using the Mobile HomeCage Large, we recommend larger carbon fiber or foam cages and mazes.
